How Cub Scouting Works
Scouting is Family Oriented
Activities are open to the whole family, and all are welcome to participate.
You work with your scout on their advancement requirements both at home and during meetings.
Many skills they will learn are family-oriented.
A parent or guardian is required to attend all events with their Scout. This includes our meetings, various outings, and special events.
Your Scout is a member of a Cub Scout Den
Dens are organized by grade level.
The den is led by a den leader (parent volunteer), and possibly an assistant Den Leader.
During den meetings, scouts will work on advancement requirements for their next rank. Parents are expected to assist their child through adventures, as needed.
Den meetings include games, crafts, songs, and lots of fun.
A parent or guardian for each scout is expected to attend each Den meeting.
If a meeting is missed, a parent is expected to reach out to the Den Leader to find out what was missed so that it can be made up at home.
Your Scout is a member of a Cub Scout Pack
The pack consists of all the dens and the other leaders, grades K-5.
The Cubmaster leads the pack meetings. He is assisted by other pack leaders: Assistant Cubmasters, Advancement Chair (awards), and other committee members.
Pack meetings are designed to be fun and usually involve games, skits, ceremonies, and presentations of awards that have been earned recently.
The pack is run by a Pack Committee
The pack is run by a group of volunteer parents.
The committee is made up of the Den leaders, Cubmaster, Treasurer, and Committee Chair and other leaders. Parents of the Pack are always welcome to attend committee meetings.
The committee plans events and sets the agenda for the coming year.
The committee selects, trains, and recognizes leaders.Â
The pack committee maintains the organization records, finances, meetings, awards, and pack equipment.
The Chartering Organization
The pack is "owned" by a chartering organization, in our case the Bulverde Lions Club
The chartering organization approves leaders, provides a meeting place, and assists in operating the pack.
